Capacity Building

OSA’s fundamental aim is to ensure community participation and mobilization, build leadership, human resources development, and to strengthen organizational and financial capacity in rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Through support for women and youth-led grassroots groups, and decision making with local authorities and non-governmental organizations, we empower all members of a community to build their capacity.

Childhood Education

We are working with community based childcare centers (CBCCs) to support initiatives to  improve early childhood education. We facilitate community efforts to overcome lack of resources, inequitable access to services, and provide greater incentives for early childhood education personnel. We also provide crucial trainings to educators, care-givers, and parents on early childhood development.

HIV/AIDS

We support community action to reduce the impact and spread of HIV/AIDS. OSA places special emphasis in working with youth groups in education and advocacy initiatives. OSA facilitates the organizing of youth clubs that plan, coordinate, and perform dramas, dances, and other artistic methods of informing the community of HIV/AIDS – helping curb the incidence rate, as well as aiding in sensitization.

Poverty Relief

We support communities in identifying low cost, easily replicable and easily managed Income Generating Projects (IGAs) such as:

  • Communal gardening
  • Food security and production
  • Animal husbandry
  • Crop farming
  • Small business/enterprise development.

We place special emphasis on projects lead and managed by women and youth-led groups. Orphan Support Africa partners with community based organizations to develop local economies and to establish effective income generating activities with a view to making communities self-reliant and their livelihoods more sustainable.

Sustainable Development and Conservation

We place very strong emphasis on supporting all our partner community based organizations to achieve self-reliance by implementing safe and environment friendly sustainable development projects. We strongly believe that the causes of poverty, HIV/AIDS and environmental degradation are cross cutting and inter-related issues. As a result we approach sustainable development with the understanding that issues of poverty, development, gender, children, and the environment are all inter-related.
