Orphan Support Africa seeks “to foster effective and sustainable programs in Africa that improve the protection and well being of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) and nurture these children to become self reliant adults”.

We are a 501-C3 NGO created by returned Peace Corps Volunteers in 2004 with a goal to assist the growing number of HIV/AIDS orphans in Malawi. Seeking to create LASTING and SUSTAINABLE improvement, OSA broke from the typical, directive approach of [most] larger aid agencies, and instead took a hands-on approach, recognizing that each CBO does best with a program created to fit the skill set and resources of each community.

Our programs provide those tools by investing in the people and their skills through trainings selected by OSA and the CBOs. This skill development permanently increases community capacity, which in turn increases and sustains the protection and positive development of orphans and vulnerable children – all while empowering the most marginalized and affected groups in rural Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda .

Our programs are unique in that they hinge on a four-part OSA approach (OSAAP). The OSAAP seeks to provide programs that 1) offer comprehensive services that are 2) community driven, 3) low cost and 4) easily replicated. With this approach, communities are able to establish a sustainable resource through self-selected income generating activities (IGAs) and achieve empowerment – both of which lead to better provision for their OVC. Each step of our approach fosters sustainable support for OVC to become self-reliant adults, and ensures long lasting change within the community.

Orphan Support Africa maintains a small development office in Philadelphia which enables us to concentrate the majority of funds to our African offices for direct program costs.

Three local DJs Bully Philly for its LUNCH MONEY in the name of World AIDS Orphan Week

LUNCH MONEY @ Fluid Nightclub

613 South 4th Street

Philadelphia, PA 19147
10pm-2am. 21+. $10 (think how many loaves of bread you can get in Malawi with that!)

OSA is throwing the best party Fluid has ever seen to support AIDS orphans in Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. In addition to raising awareness of this crisis, we want to feed the AIDS Orphans, so give us your Lunch Money.

Rich Medina, Nigel Richards and DJ Frosty are coming together for Orphan Support Africa’s world AIDS Orphan Week. If you go out one night this year, come to LUNCH MONEY. Dance to the best bangers and beats provided by three of the best DJ’s Philly can lay claim to while helping AIDS orphans – for good!

Rich Medina:

There are few nightclub DJs that have accomplished as much on a global scale as Rich Medina. From his humble beginnings as a young b-boy-turned-DJ in Lakewood, NJ, to his current status manning the decks as one of the most popular DJs in Philadelphia and NYC, Rich Medina has consistently taken multi-ethnic crowds on a sonic journey through Hip-Hop, House, Afrobeat, Funk, and Soul, unearthing one musical gem after another, for almost 20 years. Known for his selfless soul, Rich Medina is bringing his A-game to Fluid for World AIDS Orphan Week.

Nigel Richards:

Nigel has certainly seen the world during his career which is now approaching two decades, having started his obsession with dance music DJing in 1989. Germany, Brazil, England, and Bulgaria are just a sampling of the places he has blessed with his deck wizardry, along with nearly every state in the USA. Nigel is not a pigeonholed into any genre. The refinement that comes with 40+ records, three mix CDs and years of globetrotting shines through when he rocks crowds with new sounds. He brings all this experience to Fluid on May 5th for World AIDS Orphan Week.

DJ Frosty:

Frosty has been tearing up the Philadelphia scene with his Balkan, Gypsy, Hip Hop, Funk’n Soul and Afrobeat. He is a resident DJ at North Bowl in NoLibs and has recently been throwing down his unique flavor at Silk City and 700 club. If you haven’t heard him, you certainly don’t want to miss him. The benevolent DJ Frosty graces Fluid with his eclectic mix of bangers on May 5th for World AIDS Orphan Week.
